MaterialDriven has curated large scale materials exhibits for the prestigious trade event Architect@Work at its London edition for the past two years now. Themed 'Future Proof' and 'Designing for the Senses', the exhibits featured materials from our own library as well as larger works drawn from our network. In both cases, the most advanced, sought after, and interactive materials from makers, startups and manufacturers around the world were shown.
First staged in 1994, 100% Design is the commercial cornerstone event of the London Design Festival. Attracting more than 27,000 visitors across 4 days, the show takes place at one of London's iconic venues, Olympia. Since 2019, 100% Design (now Design London) has commissioned MaterialDriven to deliver a dedicated feature space devoted to the display of cutting-edge materials for the architecture and interior design industries.
Beyond Paper, for London Craft Week 2019
For over 130 years, G.F Smith has been obsessed with the simple beauty and limitless possibility of paper. Today, they act as custodians of their founders’ remarkable legacy by making and curating the world’s finest paper collection. For London Craft Week 2019, G . F Smith partnered with us, MaterialDriven, to present a collection of new, experimental materials that are at the forefront of design and sustainability.
Through a combination of smaller samples, finished objects, and larger installations, this collection showcased innovation in paper–both virgin and recycled–and in materials like wood, plastic, metal, rubber, textiles, linoleum, inks, and bio-composites. Occupying the lower ground floor of the iconic G.F Smith showroom in Central London, this display, curated and sourced by MaterialDriven, was an eye-catching composition of plinth-mounted pieces, set against the backdrop of larger wall mounted artworks.
Idea of North, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Summer 2018
Idea of North presented a series of projects that play with the convention of the ‘expo’ event. Pavilions, architectural constructions and guest-curated displays celebrated the enduring resilience and transforming spirit of a northern identity through architecture, photography, music and design. As guest curators, MaterialDriven designed a geodesic dome, 7 meters in diameter, for this exhibition. The dome’s 150+ panels were composed of materials from Northern UK. We sourced these materials from legacy manufacturers, makers, designers, artists in the north, representing the history and innovation of the region.
